We use the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). This program is specially designed for students aged 11 to 15 and is based on the needs of the teenage brain. This means that students learn more, have more fun, and are more aware of their development.
What is IMYC?
IMYC consists of units lasting 6 to 8 weeks. Each unit revolves around a theme and a ‘Big Idea’. This is a challenging concept that serves as a connecting factor between different subjects.
For example, during the theme “Adaptation,” students explore geography and how people around the world adapt to different weather conditions. In art and culture, the focus is on the use of (sustainable) materials, while in natural sciences, you discover how nature adapts to new circumstances.
Your first year
We start each unit with an educational activity. Afterward, you delve into the theme during the lessons. At the end of each unit, you work on a (collaborative) final assignment to demonstrate what you have learned about yourself and the theme. We then conclude the theme with a fun activity.
The following themes are covered in the first year:
- Discovery
- Collaboration
- Adaptability
- Creativity
